Net-Zero Home

Project Features

The wall structure was created using the Nudura XR35 ICF block which features 4” of EPS foam on both the inside and outside walls, while the 8’’ wide inside core is filled with concrete reinforced with carefully positioned 15mm steel rebars throughout the wall system. Additionally, another layer of 3.5” EPS foam was screwed to the exterior wall, making the entire wall system nearly 2’ thick once you include the drywall with strapping on the inside and the exterior steel paneling.

Special care was taken to ensure all the window openings were well sealed and insulated. Pieces of EPS foam were installed within the ICF forms prior to the pouring of the concrete to prevent any thermal bridging around the windows

The floor system has 10.5” of EPS foam under the concrete slab to eliminate any loss through the ground. The concrete slab was polished and covered with an epoxy finish, rather than being covered with any flooring, so that the clients could maximize its use as a thermal mass to absorb the sun’s energy during the day and release this heat later in the day.

The roof system had to be extremely robust in terms of thermal resistance given what everyone knows “hot air rises”. The entire truss system is filled with cellulose insulation which in turn created a challenge on how to efficiently ventilate the roof. The entire roof area was strapped with 2×3’ s and sheathed, thus, creating a duct allowing air to circulate between the 2 two layers of plywood.

The construction of our first Net-Zero home was quite an undertaking.

We needed to co-ordinate the clients’ requirements and their architectural plans with the technical challenges of guaranteeing that the final product would achieve Net-Zero certification.

Careful consideration needed to be given in the construction process, selection of key materials such as triple-glazed windows, and installation of a heating/cooling system that focuses on optimizing low energy consumption and long-term durability.

A Custom designed addition and substantial interior renovation of one of Vankleek Hill’s renowned Victorian homes. It required supporting part of old part of the home while digging below and rebuilding an entirely new foundation.

This project was built on time and within the scope of work for the Dept of Parks and Recreation for Township of Champlain.

Work Shed

Project Features

A wonderful construction project from start to finish.

For this project the owner had already prepared the foundations, installed the in-floor heating system and poured the slab. Once the foundations were all back-filled our job of framing and raising the structure began. This 36 x 40 structure features 16′ foot ceilings and a 14′ tall garage door. All windows and doors were supplied by Glengarry Windows and Doors in Alexandria.

Project Summary

This building is also completely insulated with batts and the walls, and using a combination of spray foam and blown-in insulation in the ceiling. The entire structure is all covered with a highly durable Vicwest roofing and cladding system. The exterior is made of 26 gauge 32″ wide panels in Vicwest Rd #56080, the corners are in Vicwest BrightWhite #56086 and the roof in Super Vic 26 gauge Regent Grey, thus, making this structure one that will outlast us all.

Steel Framed Garage

Project Features

This garage project with a steel frame structure and siding was quick start to finish. The 30’x36’ structure came delivered as a complete package with the siding included it was quickly erected once the footings and foundations were cured.
