Additionally, another layer of 3.5\u201d EPS foam was screwed to the exterior wall, making the entire wall system nearly 2\u2019 thick once you include the drywall with strapping on the inside and the exterior steel paneling.<\/p>\n<p>Special care was taken to ensure all the window openings were well sealed and insulated. Pieces of EPS foam were installed within the ICF forms prior to the pouring of the concrete to prevent any thermal bridging around the windows<\/p>\n<p>The floor system has 10.5\u201d of EPS foam under the concrete slab to eliminate any loss through the ground. The concrete slab was polished and covered with an epoxy finish, rather than being covered with any flooring, so that the clients could maximize its use as a thermal mass to absorb the sun\u2019s energy during the day and release this heat later in the day.<\/p>\n<p>The roof system had to be extremely robust in terms of thermal resistance given what everyone knows \u201chot air rises\u201d. The entire truss system is filled with cellulose insulation which in turn created a challenge on how to efficiently ventilate the roof. Once the foundations were all back-filled our job of framing and raising the structure began. This 36 x 40 structure features 16&#8242; foot ceilings and a 14&#8242; tall garage door. All windows and doors were supplied by Glengarry Windows and Doors in Alexandria.<\/p>\n<h4>Project Summary<\/h4>\n<p>This building is also completely insulated with batts and the walls, and using a combination of spray foam and blown-in insulation in the ceiling. The entire structure is all covered with a highly durable Vicwest roofing and cladding system.
